That it is even possible to control such large quantities of water without using pumps is almost a miracle, and this is impressively displayed by hundreds of spotlights. Enjoy the fantastic guided tours in the middle of the largest mountain park in Europe.
Lively cultural programme 2013
An extensive cultural programme of events has been developed in view of several anniversaries relating to the life and works of the Brothers Grimm. The key event in the anniversary year Grimm 2013 is the state exhibition from 27th April to 8th September 2013 in the documenta Hall in Kassel.
Kassel's 1,100th anniversary
On 18th February 913, Kassel was mentioned in the documents for the first time, known at the time as Chassella or Chassalla. Celebrate with Kassel in 2013.
The Hessentag has developed into the largest state festival of its kind in Germany. Around 1,000 individual events that attract more than one million visitors during the ten days of the festival in June 2013 are the best testimony to its popularity.
